The Central Texas community has raised more than $17,000 for funeral expenses for the family of seven-year-old Quinece Turner, who was tragically struck and killed by lightning.
Quinece and her family were outdoors when an unexpected storm passed through, with a rogue bolt of lightning fatally striking the young girl. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, she did not survive her injuries.
The local community, including friends and faculty at Kemp-Carver Elementary School where Quinece was a first-grader, promptly came together to organize a prayer vigil and a GoFundMe page on behalf of the grieving family.
During the prayer gathering, the community shared heart-wrenching stories and messages of love and unity. “To love one another while we can,” was a resonant sentiment that permeated the collective mourning.
Moreover, Marcus Turner, a teacher at Kemp-Carver Elementary School, spoke out about losing Quinece, who was not just his student but also his cousin. He stated, “I had the privilege of not only being a teacher here, a worker here — I’m also her cousin.”
The community has rallied continuously since the unfortunate accident, showing solidarity and support for Quinece’s family. The family has been assured multiple times they can count on their neighbors, who are willing to offer emotional support and assist in any way possible.
The funeral of young Quinece will be held this coming Friday at 11 a.m. at New Birth Baptist Church in Bryan. The entire community is invited to pay their last respects and support the family in this time of unimaginable pain.
As the community continues to rally around the family in dealing with such a devastating loss, the spirit of unity and resilience shines through. This supports the affirmation that, even in the face of the greatest adversity, people can come together to offer support and compassion in the most profound ways.
