Concern Arises in College Station Over THC-Laced Halloween Candy Incident

Concern Arises in College Station Over Candy Incident

In College Station, Texas, a spooky twist to Halloween has parents and school officials waving a caution flag. Recently, three sixth-grade students at ILTexas were involved in an incident involving candy they believed to be your typical Halloween treats. Unfortunately, it turned out that the candy was not what it appeared to be—it was laced with THC, the psychoactive component found in cannabis.

What Happened

The incident occurred on a Thursday afternoon when the students excitedly opened their candy, looking forward to a sugary delight. However, one of the students quickly noticed something was off with the flavor of the candy and wisely decided to spit it out. Meanwhile, the other two students went ahead and ingested the candy without realizing it was anything out of the ordinary.

Things took a turn when one of the students started feeling unwell and promptly headed to the nurse’s office. Upon examining the candy and recognizing that it was not just an ordinary treat, the nurse took immediate action. She promptly informed school officials and emergency services, triggering a swift response from authorities.

Investigation Findings

After an investigation led by the College Station Police Department, it was determined that the consumption of the laced candy was an unfortunate accident. According to officials, the family of the student who brought the candy to school was completely unaware that the bag contained THC. In fact, the candy was unopened and closely resembled a well-known brand of candy, making it an easy mix-up.

The school explained that an ILTexas parent had been transporting other students from a nearby high school to a Halloween Trunk or Treat event. In the hustle and bustle of the evening, the parent left the candy behind in the car. It was later picked up by the ILTexas student, who mistakenly thought it was a different type of candy. “After trying the candy, the student immediately notified staff that something was not right,” the school’s statement read.

Call for Caution

While no criminal charges will be filed in this case, the school is using this incident as a teaching moment for parents and students alike. They are urging parents to thoroughly check their children’s Halloween candy and to have open conversations with their kids about not eating treats from friends without knowing their origins.

The school encouraged parents to talk with their “Eagle” (the school mascot) about the importance of being cautious with candies, especially if they come from someone else. “Please be sure to speak with your Eagle about eating candy even from a friend,” ILTexas advised in a follow-up statement.

A Community Response

The incident has sparked discussions within the community about the need for greater awareness when it comes to candy during Halloween. Our community prides itself on keeping children safe, and incidents like these are a jarring reminder to remain alert.

As Halloween approaches, let’s remember to keep these conversations going—so our kiddos can enjoy all the thrills and chills of this festive season while staying safe. So parents, this year’s advice is clear: Check those treats! You can never be too careful.
