Bryan, Texas: Celebrating Community Spirit During National 4-H Week

As the leaves start to change and that crisp autumn air settles in, Bryan, Texas, is gearing up for an exciting celebration! It’s that time of year again—yes, it’s National 4-H Week! Each year, during the first full week of October, 4-H members across the nation come together to recognize the incredible youth development program known for its commitment to hands-on learning. This year, the theme is all about giving back to the community!

What is 4-H, and Why Does It Matter?

If you’re not familiar with it, 4-H is one of the largest youth organizations in the country. It focuses on engaging young people in a variety of projects that range from agriculture to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). The program aims to develop essential skills in areas like food and nutrition, fashion, citizenship, and leadership. It’s especially celebrated for instilling a sense of responsibility and community involvement in its members.

One of the most notable aspects of National 4-H Week is its special day called One Day 4-H. This day is dedicated to service, allowing 4-H members to show their appreciation for the communities that continually support their activities and initiatives. It’s a heartwarming occasion that reflects the core values of 4-H—community, service, and gratitude.

Giving Back: The Canned Food Drive

This year, Brazos County 4-H is taking their community service to another level by partnering with the Brazos Valley Fair & Rodeo. They have organized a canned food drive, set to take place during the kick-off weekend of the fair. It’s happening on Saturday, October 12, from noon to 8 p.m., at the Brazos County Expo Center. It’s a fantastic opportunity for everyone in Bryan and the surrounding areas to contribute to a vital cause.

Wondering how you can get involved? It’s simple! Just bring five canned food items to the Expo Center, and in exchange, you’ll receive $5 off your $20 admission to the fairgrounds. What a fun and meaningful way to support those in need while enjoying everything the fair has to offer!

Your Donations Matter

All the food collected during this event will go directly to the Brazos Valley Food Bank, helping those in our community who are facing food insecurity. It’s a wonderful chance to clear out your pantry while providing essential support to fellow neighbors.

Keeping the Spirit Alive

To stay up-to-date on the happenings of Brazos County 4-H, be sure to check out their Facebook page. They share news. events, and initiatives that help you get involved. Whether you’re a long-time supporter of 4-H or just looking to get involved, there’s no better time than now. Mark your calendar for October 12, gather some non-perishable food items, and bring your friends and family to the fair. Together, we can make a positive impact in Bryan while having a blast!
