All eyes have been on Bryan and College Station recently as several incidents have kept local authorities and residents on their toes. From serious assaults to gunfire and traffic accidents, it’s safe to say that things have been a bit tumultuous.

A Shocking Assault in Bedias

On the night of April 17, excitement turned to alarm when 42-year-old Rodney Williams Jr. from Bedias was arrested after an incident at an apartment along Southwest Parkway, nestled between Welsh and Wellborn. In a disturbing turn of events, a woman was assaulted but fortunately suffered only minor injuries. Even better news emerged as an undisclosed number of children present during the incident were reported uninjured.

This serious situation led to Williams facing four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. To add to his troubles, he has a warrant out for violating probation from a 2018 misdemeanor criminal mischief plea. As of April 18, this individual is behind bars with a hefty bond totaling $124,000.

Gunfire at Sadie Thomas Park

minor injuries, multiple vehicles suffered damage from the stray bullets. Thankfully, there have been no arrests made yet as of 9 PM that evening, leaving the community on edge and urging anyone with information to reach out to local authorities at 979-209-5300 or 979-361-3888.

Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Update

  • Restructuring the size of cadet units for better balance alongside upcoming experiences starting this fall.
  • Clarifying the function of the corps board of visitors.
  • Preparing updated budget projections and requests for an effective academic year.

With two major projects lined up, the new commandant will be busy. By December 15, a new cadet chain of command is set to roll out, along with a concept plan by August 31 covering replacements for Duncan dining hall and the Trigon military science building, as well as a brand new cadet life center. Other tasks include:

  • Striving to maintain a corps size of 2,550 members.
  • Avoiding external consultants for recruitment over the next two years.
  • Implementing a firm policy for cadet dining hall use linked to formation and march-in.
  • Conducting annual evaluations for corps advisors based on cadet feedback and ongoing training.

Traffic Incidents Raise Safety Concerns

critical injuries, and speed is believed to be a contributing factor to this unfortunate accident. Traffic was disrupted, with the intersection closed for a full three hours.
