Hey there, Bryan! It looks like we’re about to see some interesting (and safe) happenings in our community. Starting on Monday, September 9, contractors from Bryan Water Services will be taking on the important task of intermittent smoke testing throughout the city’s sanitary sewer lines. It’s a great way to ensure everything’s running smoothly beneath our feet!
You might be wondering, “What exactly is smoke testing?” Well, it’s pretty straightforward! Essentially, city crews will inject harmless smoke into the sewer lines through manholes. This helps them spot broken pipes, as well as any other sneaky defects hiding underneath the ground.
The smoke testing will take place throughout September, but keep in mind that the schedule is a bit weather-dependent. If it rains, the testing might be postponed. So, if you hear the pitter-patter of raindrops, just know your morning routine might be a tad quieter!
As for the areas being tested, they include a wide swath of our lovely city. If you live near any of these spots—like Atlas Pear Drive, Biomedical Way, Burgess Lane, or Turkey Creek Road—you might notice some activity in the coming weeks! Overall, the boundaries stretch through several roads, ensuring that a significant portion of Bryan is covered.
Now, don’t be alarmed if you see smoke coming from vent pipes on rooftops, manholes, or even from the ground. This is all part of the testing process, and rest assured, the smoke is non-toxic, leaves no residue, and poses no fire hazard. That’s right—no need to grab your fire extinguisher!
One thing to note, however, is that while the smoke might be floating around outside, it won’t enter your home unless there’s something amiss with your plumbing or if your drain traps are dry. To keep the smoke where it belongs, it’s a good idea to pour about one gallon of water into drains that don’t see much action. This easy step should help keep your home free of any unexpected smoky guests.
Good news for those of you concerned about privacy—employees from the water services team won’t need to enter your home during this testing. Any documentation about defects will be focused on properties but won’t involve any intrusions. So, you can go about your day without worrying about surprises at your doorstep!
If you have any questions bubbling up, simply reach out to Water Services by giving them a call at 979-209-5900. They’ll be happy to help you with any of your concerns or queries regarding the smoke testing process.
So, Bryan, there you have it. Get ready for some smoke testing over the next few weeks! It’s all about keeping our community’s sewer system in tip-top shape. As with any testing, a little bit of preparation can go a long way. We’re all in this together, working to make our city a better place to live. Thanks for being a part of this community and for your understanding as we undergo these improvements!
