Bryan Resident Hosts 2nd Annual ‘God is Good’ Luncheon for Easter

In the heart of Bryan, Texas, amid all the colorful Easter celebrations, Gloria Kennard hosted her second annual ‘God is Good’ luncheon to reaffirm the spirit of community togetherness and sharing. A member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Kennard is well-known for her heartfelt gesture of providing free food to the needy on Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.

Answering a Higher Calling

In Bryan’s Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Gloria Kennard, along with several volunteers find a moment to pray before embarking on their busy day. Despite the hours of preparation ahead, Kennard’s determination shines through. “God is good, he blesses me, and intends for me to bless others,” expressed Kennard.

Stepping into her second year of hosting the ‘God is Good’ Luncheon, she brought together neighbors and church members to celebrate the joyous occasion of Easter. This communal meal, offering free food, is her way of reaching out to the less privileged. Reflecting on her motivation, Kennard shares, “I volunteer with different organizations and see that people are in need. If I’m able to help someone, I am going to do that.”

A Tradition of Giving

This November, Kennard will mark her 36th year of distributing free meals for Thanksgiving. Over the past six years, she has also been preparing feasts for the community on New Year’s Day.

Johnny Lister, one of Kennard’s dedicated volunteers, praised her endeavor. “She is a very dynamic woman. She’s not just doing it one time; she’s doing it multiple times throughout the year and it’s a nice authentic, home-cooked meal,” he lauded.

A Testament to Faith

But for Kennard, this tradition of sharing is more than just a charitable act. She firmly believes that she is answering a higher calling. “God put it in me to do something, I have been doing it ever since and I have not missed a year,” Kennard spoke with unwavering conviction.

As Kennard’s ‘God is Good’ Luncheon proves, it is this spirit of giving and sense of community that truly embodies the spirit of Easter.
