In the heart of Bryan, there’s a buzz of excitement as the Bryan Independent School District (BISD) gears up for some big changes in its leadership! At the most recent school board meeting, which took place on November 18, 2024, the board members unanimously approved a recommendation that promises to shake things up a bit.
Say hello to Desiree Caperton, the new principal of Bryan Collegiate High School! Formerly the principal at Jane Long Intermediate, she is returning to Collegiate after serving as its associate principal a while back. Board member Ruthie Waller couldn’t help but cheer the decision, remarking that Caperton will only be the third principal to helm the school since its opening in 2007. “So it’s a good gig,” Waller quipped with a smile.
Dr. Caperton is no stranger to Bryan ISD; she brings with her an impressive 21 years of experience right here in the district and a total of 26 years in education. Before her stint at Jane Long Intermediate, she made her mark at Fannin Elementary for three years. Her qualifications are nothing short of stellar—she holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Prairie View A&M University, two Master’s degrees from Sam Houston State University, and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas. Fun fact: She also ran Division 1 Cross Country and Track!
Superintendent Ginger Carrabine assured everyone that this transition will be seamless due to Caperton’s extensive experience in the district. She expressed excitement for the school community and hinted that there’s already a plan in place for Caperton’s departure from Jane Long. It’s clear that change is in the air, and many are looking forward to seeing the impact of Caperton’s leadership at Collegiate!
Now, the pressing question—who will take over Caperton’s duties at Jane Long Intermediate? Unfortunately, details on her successor weren’t disclosed during the meeting. But you can be sure that the board has something in the works because they emphasized there’s a blueprint to make this transition as smooth as possible.
This gathering follows a recent open house hosted by the B/CS metropolitan planning organization (MPO) intended to discuss future transportation projects, including the controversial inner east loop. Many residents feel that the details surrounding the project have been muddled, and there’s a growing call for local officials to engage in more open, public discussions.
So, there you have it, Bryan! Change is in the air on multiple fronts, and it looks like there’s plenty to keep our eyes on in the coming months. Stay tuned for more exciting developments!
