Exciting Times in Bryan and Beyond: New Leaders, Safety Programs, and Community Updates!

Hey there, Bryan! Buckle up for some significant news coming from our vibrant community and beyond! It’s an exciting time, filled with changes and initiatives that are sure to grab your attention.

New Chancellor on the Horizon for Texas A&M University System

First off, let’s get right to it. The Texas A&M University System is gearing up for a change in leadership. Glenn Hegar, currently serving as the state comptroller, has been selected as the sole finalist for chancellor. This decision was made during a recent vote by the Board of Regents, and guess what? It was a unanimous choice.

Hegar has had quite an impressive career. Before stepping into his role as comptroller, he served in both the Texas House of Representatives and the Senate. He’s been re-elected twice, showcasing his popularity among voters. The Board of Regents is optimistic about Hegar’s leadership, noting that he is well-equipped to handle the vast responsibilities connected with overseeing 11 universities and 8 state agencies.

The chancellor selection process follows a state law requiring a 21-day comment period before finalizing Hegar’s appointment. If all goes as planned, he’ll succeed John Sharp, who has held the position for almost 14 years! That’s quite a legacy! Hegar is a proud Texas A&M graduate and comes from a long line of Texas farmers, which adds a personal touch to his commitment to the Lone Star State.
