Exciting Developments in Bryan: Turf Replacement, Drone Deliveries, and Community Programs

Hey there, Bryan residents! It’s a bustling time in our charming city, as important updates roll in from various corners of the community. From plans to spruce up our beloved Merrill Green Stadium to some intriguing public safety incidents and exciting local programs, there’s plenty to chat about! Let’s dive right in.

Major Changes Coming to Merrill Green Stadium

First up, let’s talk about Merrill Green Stadium. It looks like the artificial turf, which has proudly served our local athletes since 2012, is on its way out! School board member David Stennis reported that there’s a need for funding to replace the turf, along with potentially updating the stadium lights. This is critical, given how much use the field gets for events ranging from Friday night football games to high school track meets.

Mark your calendars for April 7, 2025! That’s when the Bryan Independent School District (BISD) board will meet to discuss awarding a contract valued at $697,664 for this much-needed turf replacement. While the agenda isn’t clear on where the money will come from, a spokesperson hinted that it might involve utilizing leftover funds from the bonds approved in 2014 and 2019. Fingers crossed that this goes through smoothly so our athletes can play on a fresh new field soon!

Amazon’s Drones Are Back in Action!

Amazon has resumed its drone deliveries in College Station and Arizona after a brief two-month pause. What caused the break? Well, it seems the drones were having altitude sensor issues triggered by dust – who knew? Fortunately, after receiving a software update, the little flying robots are back at work soaring through the skies delivering packages. So, if you’ve been waiting on that special item, your trusty drone delivery may be just around the corner!

Police Responds to Disturbing Incident

College Station Police Department (CSPD) responded promptly to reports of a man barricaded in a woman’s fourplex. Allegedly, he had threatened her with a knife. Thankfully, the woman managed to escape when the man fell asleep. When police arrived, they found him hiding in the kitchen sink cabinet. Talk about a wild story!

Senior Support with ‘R-U-OK’ Program

Brazos County Sheriff’s Office is doing something really heartwarming. They’ve expanded their “R-U-OK” program aimed at checking in on residents who are 55 and older or homebound. This initiative is all about companionship and security, helping ensure our seniors are safe and sound. Plus, they’re inviting local volunteers to get involved, making it a wonderful community effort.

Security Incident at Track Meet

terrorist threats during a 4th Grade Track Meet. Although the incident raised alarms at the time, it’s important to note that the man was unarmed and there were no disruptions to school activities. Thank goodness for quick responses from authorities!

Exciting Collaboration for Bryan High School

Northern Tool and Monster Jam. They have something truly fun planned – they’ll be creating a 7-foot mini monster truck as part of a three-year partnership. What a thrilling opportunity for our young welders to showcase their talents!

That’s a wrap on the latest happenings around Bryan! Stay tuned for more updates, and let’s keep the positive vibes rolling in our community!
