Texas A&M Welcomes New Forward to Boost Soccer Team
In sports news, the Texas A&M soccer team is ramping up its offensive strategy with the signing of forward Savannah Hutchins. Coach G Guerrieri shared the exciting news, highlighting Hutchins as a “pacy breakaway threat” that the team has been eagerly searching for. With Hutchins’ skills and a hunger for scoring, Coach Guerrieri expressed confidence that she will significantly enhance the team’s offense, making them more formidable on the national stage.
Hutchins, who is originally from Toronto, has some impressive credentials. She made her mark in her freshman season at North Carolina State last year, playing in four games and gaining valuable experience. Before that, she shone at Moorpark High School in California, racking up a staggering 41 points during her sophomore year alone, thanks to 17 goals and seven assists.
Adding to her resume, Hutchins has even participated in national team camps for Canada Soccer, including time with the U17 squad. Her past experiences and skills make her an exciting addition to the Aggies, and it seems like she’s ready to make an immediate impact!
Groundbreaking for a New Medical Examiner’s Office
In other news, Brazos County is officially kicking off construction on its new medical examiner’s office. The $34 million facility, which is slated to open in April of 2026, aims to serve a significant 100-mile radius around the Brazos Valley.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held on December 17, 2024, was attended by notable figures, including Judge Duane Peters and District Attorney Jarvis Parsons. Highlighting the importance of this project, former College Station Mayor Karl Mooney spoke about his personal motivation for pursuing this local office after experiencing delays concerning the autopsy of his late wife, Laura.
This initiative is expected to enhance service delivery in the community, providing much-needed resources and facilities for the area’s medical and legal needs regarding investigations.
Transition in Student Affairs Leadership at Texas A&M
Attention all students and staff at Texas A&M! It’s time for a leadership transition as the university prepares to select a new Vice President of Student Affairs (VPSA). Current VPSA Joe Ramirez announced his retirement, which takes effect January 1, 2025. President Mark Welsh is on top of things and has already formed a search committee to find Ramirez’s successor.
Chairing the committee is Vice Provost Tim Scott. President Welsh expressed gratitude for the appointment of Tom Reber as the interim VPSA, saying that Reber’s 40 years of dedicated service to the university make him an excellent choice for this crucial role. During his time at A&M, Reber has been involved in various capacities, including as the Executive Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Chief of Staff.
The president is optimistic about this transition, emphasizing the committee’s mission to continue providing high-quality experiences for students at A&M. It’s a busy but exciting time for the whole campus community!
