In the heart of Bryan, Texas, the recent City Council election has turned into a thrilling chapter for local governance! The buzz started early on Election Day, and it didn’t take long for voters to make their voices heard. Amid considerable anticipation, incumbent James Edge emerged victorious in the race for City Council, Single Member District 4, beating challenger Shane Savage with a solid majority.
With all 28 vote centers reporting, Edge celebrated a resounding win, raking in an impressive 66.6% of the votes, translating to 4,883 ballots in his favor. On the flip side, Savage, who brought a fiery passion for local businesses to his campaign, secured 33.3% of the votes, which accounted for 2,447 votes. Those numbers tell a clear story: Bryan residents have confidence in Edge’s leadership.
James Edge, a proud fourth-generation resident of Bryan, isn’t just a familiar face around town; he has also worn many hats. Notably, he served as the mayor pro tem during his previous term and has experience as a district director for former U.S. Representative Bill Flores. His background, which also includes role on the Bryan Business Council and BISD Superintendent’s Advisory Committee, paints a picture of a man committed to community service and progress.
As soon as he heard the good news about his reelection, Edge didn’t hold back on sharing his heart. “It’s extremely gratifying and it’s humbling. I’m just glad it’s over,” he remarked with a smile. Having faced his first contested election, Edge described the experience as both exciting and enlightening. “I’m pleased with the results, but also it’s been very humbling,” he added, showing his appreciation for the community’s support.
With all incumbents retaining their positions on the council, Edge feels a strong sense of continuity is vital for the city. “I feel like we are heading in a trajectory that is good for the city of Bryan,” he mentioned confidently. It seems like the residents of Bryan are pleased with the council’s collective efforts, and Edge is looking forward to steering the ship forward together. “I’m really excited that everyone seems to have fared well,” he said, hinting at a united team working for a brighter future.
But what does the future hold? Edge acknowledges that the next election cycle in two short years will see Districts 1 and 2, along with the mayoral position, up for grabs. While he can’t predict who will throw their hat in the ring then, he is currently focused on serving the community to the best of his ability. “It’s been a real privilege to serve on this council,” he stated, reflecting on his commitment to the people of Bryan.
As Edge and his fellow council members prepare to meet this coming Tuesday, he’s looking forward to getting back to business without the distraction of campaigning. “I haven’t seen an agenda yet, but I look forward to meeting on Tuesday and continuing to move forward,” he mentioned, hinting at a promising agenda ahead.
With a bright future on the horizon and all the electoral excitement still in the air, Bryan residents can feel a sense of pride knowing their voices matter. Stay tuned for more updates as City Council continues its work, ensuring Bryan remains a vibrant and thriving community!
