A community gathering to raise awareness about child sexual assault and support victims.
The Bryan community grapples with alarming child sexual assault cases involving multiple arrests and significant sentences. Tyson Henson faces charges for assaulting a child, and Robert Ocampo’s disturbing actions lead to serious legal repercussions. Additionally, Brandon Fisher and Henry Craig Tates receive heavy sentences for their heinous crimes. These incidents highlight the urgent need for community vigilance and protection for children.
In the bustling city of Bryan, Texas, the community has been rattled by several recent developments involving serious allegations related to child sexual assault. It’s both alarming and disheartening to see the dark side of humanity affect the innocent.
First up, we have Tyson Henson, who was booked into the Brazos County Jail this past Thursday. Henson is facing some rather serious charges, including the sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child through sexual contact. Quite worryingly, he has been set a hefty bond amount of $300,000.
This isn’t Henson’s first run-in with the law. In fact, he had an earlier arrest in 2023 for a previous sexual assault. He was booked into the Leon County Jail back then, showing a troubling pattern of behavior. It’s deeply concerning to think about what might be going on behind closed doors if these allegations hold any truth.
Then, there’s Robert Ocampo, a Bryan man who is under investigation for allegedly assaulting a 16-year-old classmate back in 2022 when he was 19 years old. While the charge in that case wasn’t classified as child sexual assault due to Texas law regarding age differences, things took a turn when he was out on bond and wearing an ankle monitor.
In a shocking twist, Ocampo allegedly assaulted a 15-year-old co-worker at the Urban Air trampoline park in June 2024, leading to child sexual assault charges against him. There’s been a lot of chatter and concern about whether Urban Air was aware of Ocampo’s previous allegations when he was employed. The Brazos County District Attorney’s Office had previously asked for Ocampo’s bond to be revoked, but that request was initially denied. Eventually, after some back-and-forth, Judge John Brick did revoke his bond, indicating a serious escalation in the situation.
In more hare-raising news, Brandon Fisher, a resident of College Station, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for the sexual assault of a 16-year-old relative back in 2019. The case came to light after a sexual assault examination confirmed Fisher’s involvement. Surprisingly, he pled guilty before the jury selection even began, resulting in a sentence just three years shy of the maximum 20 years. The behavior he displayed toward someone he should have protected is indeed predatory and appalling.
And that’s not all. Henry Craig Tates received a staggering 30-year sentence for sexually assaulting a 29-year-old woman with Down syndrome. In this case, the victim reported experiencing genital pain to her doctor, leading to the painful discovery of a sexually transmitted disease. Tates ultimately confessed to assaulting his victim, fully aware that she could not give consent due to her condition. His sentence also includes a lifetime protective order for the victim, emphasizing the legal system’s commitment to her safety and well-being.
These recent events have sent shockwaves through the Bryan community, highlighting not only the prevalence of such heinous crimes but also the ongoing need for vigilance and protection for our children. Each of these cases raises a multitude of questions about prevention, legal processes, and societal responsibility
While the legal system works tirelessly to address these cases, it serves as a stark reminder that awareness and community involvement are just as vital in the fight against child sexual assault. One can only hope for healing and justice in the wake of such grim news.
