Demonstrating determination and skill, the Cubs took early control of the game, scoring four runs in the first inning. Despite a strong comeback effort from College Station, led by Cade Corcoran and Nash Urban, Brenham’s relief pitcher Brayden Steele shone with a dominating performance, ensuring the Cubs’ victory. With a total of 11 hits and strong pitching, Brenham sets a promising tone for the season ahead.
There was plenty of excitement in Brenham as the local Cubs took to the diamond for their District 17-5A season opener, showing just how determined they are to make a mark this year. Their showdown against College Station proved to be a real nail-biter, but the Cubs emerged with an impressive 8-4 victory, marking their first win over College Station since 2022.
The Cubs came out swinging, really showing their hunger for a win right from the first pitch. In a dazzling display of offense, they sent nine batters to the plate in the opening inning, accumulating an exhilarating four runs before the dust even settled. It was a sight to behold as Drake Bentke and Luke Hardy stepped up to the plate, each delivering clutch singles to drive in some crucial runs.
Unfortunately for College Station, the inning wasn’t just tough on the mound; they also made a couple of costly defensive errors and issued a whopping three walks. Their pitcher, Jake Boggan, struggled with his command and wasn’t able to finish the first inning. It was a tough pill to swallow for the visitors, who found themselves in a bit of a hole early on.
On the mound for Brenham, starter Brody Hemann had a rough go, pitching 2 2/3 innings and allowing four runs along with five walks. But the real star of the show came in the form of Brayden Steele, who stepped in as a relief pitcher. Over 4 1/3 innings, Steele was utterly dominating, not allowing a single hit and striking out five batters. His stellar performance kept the College Station bats at bay and was a key factor in securing the win for the Cubs.
