Residents of the Brazos Valley can look forward to some exciting news as the countdown begins for the 2025-2027 Community Impact Grant applications. Starting January 14, 2025, nonprofits across the region, including those from Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson, and Washington counties, will have the chance to apply for much-needed funding. This grant program is designed specifically to help organizations that are making a difference in their communities.
The available grants will range from a solid $10,000 to an impressive $40,000 over a two-year period. Now, before you rush to put in your application, it’s important to note that only those organizations that are 501(c)(3) certified can apply. Additionally, they need to have the necessary financial documents ready to present.
Once the applications come pouring in, a committee of dedicated community volunteers will be responsible for reviewing each one. They will score the applications based on specific criteria, ensuring that the best projects receive the funding they need. If selected, the applicants will move forward to an exciting second phase where committee members will visit their operations to see firsthand the impact they’re making.
Mark your calendars! The application window will close on February 14, 2025, so it’s important for organizations to get ready to submit their applications well ahead of time. This could be the perfect opportunity for nonprofits to secure funds that could transform their work in the community.
Upon his arrest, police discovered a stolen gun along with a THC vape pen and a small stash of marijuana in Turner’s possession. He now faces a list of serious charges, including burglary of a habitation, evading and resisting arrest, and drug possession. To add to his troubles, as of December 26, Turner was held in jail with bonds totaling $135,000. He’s certainly got a lot on his plate, as he also has pending trials for previous felony charges.
The College Station Independent School District has another engaging opportunity for all community members and stakeholders. The district is encouraging everyone to participate in their calendar survey for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. This is a fantastic chance for parents and educators to share their thoughts and preferences, with the deadline for completing the online survey set for January 3, 2025.
The calendar recommendations will take into account feedback from educators, community councils, and other administrative inputs, while making sure to comply with state requirements for instructional minutes. It’s worth noting that the state has stopped offering waivers for making up lost instructional days due to severe weather incidents, so every bit of feedback counts!
In a recent Brazos County commission meeting, commissioner Steve Aldrich faced challenges in attempting to secure reappointments to the board of emergency services for precinct one. The meeting took place on December 10, 2024, but details on the outcome remain unclear.
Lastly, mark your calendars for an upcoming event sponsored by Bryan Broadcasting Corporation. The campaign kickoff tailgate for the United Way of the Brazos Valley is set for August 23, 2024. Tickets for this exciting event are priced at $75 each, so make sure you’re ready to wear your maroon and white as you enjoy a fun-filled day for a wonderful cause!
