Sparking Up Progress: College Station Fire Department Report
In a recent report to the city council, Fire Chief Richard Mann shared some exciting updates about the College Station Fire Department. One major highlight is the progress on the new fire station, the seventh in the city, set to break ground in April 2025. This new station is expected to be fully operational by fall 2026.
But that’s not all! Chief Mann also revealed that the fire engine ordered back in October 2023 is estimated to arrive by July 2026. For the stats lovers out there, it’s notable that, in last year alone, about two-thirds of the department’s calls were for medical emergencies. The department transported almost 90% of the 5,100 patients it assisted to advanced life support.
In 2024, it seems our firefighters added some extra polish to their operations, as they made 230 fewer ambulance trips compared to the previous year. It’s also worth mentioning that most of the calls—around 92%—were within College Station, while the rest mostly served residents outside city limits in Brazos County.
With more than 1,600 sick calls, 1,200 automatic alarms, and a handful of serious incidents like major accidents and calls for unconscious individuals, the College Station Fire Department continues making a significant impact in our community!

On March 11, 2025, a disturbance at a mobile home park led to two injuries. A man named Dan Arzola was arrested after he assaulted a victim. The wild part? A juvenile intervened and ended up stabbing Arzola in defense of the victim!
Arzola didn’t make matters better by damaging the victim’s vehicle before he fled. He was later apprehended by the police, treated for his stab wound, and ultimately charged with multiple offenses.
Just a day earlier, on March 10, 2025, there was a shooting incident related to another individual, Zachariah Hawkins, who was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm following a report of gunfire. Fortunately, no one was injured, although it certainly raised some eyebrows in the community.
