In a unanimous vote conducted during a recent meeting, the Brazos County Commissioners have extended the contract to keep the Texas State 4-H horse show at the Brazos County Expo complex through 2028. This event has been held at the expo since 2019.
The vote, which was held without public comment, gives the state extension service $50,000 dollars a year from the county’s hotel occupancy tax fund. In addition to this, the state extension service is also eligible to receive a discount of up to $12,000 dollars per year on the renting of the expo complex. This discount is contingent on how many hotel rooms are booked that are associated with the show.
The vote by the commissioners took place on the third day of this year’s event. As per the horse show’s official website, the event was expected to attract approximately 350 participants along with their family members.
The unanimous vote also saw a renewal of financial support for the state extension service with an allotment of $50,000 a year from the county’s hotel occupancy tax fund. This fund supports the infrastructural and operational costs involved in hosting the event.
The state extension service also stands to receive a credit of up to $12,000 a year toward renting the Expo complex. However, the amount of the discount will depend on the number of hotel rooms booked associated with the show.
With the extension of the contract, the Brazos County Expo complex will continue to be the venue of choice for the Texas 4-H State Horse Show for the next four years. The decision to extend the contract reflects the county’s commitment to promoting and supporting equestrian events and activities, and the positive economic boost such events offer to the local economy.
In conclusion, the extended contract of the Texas 4-H State Horse Show at the Brazos County Expo complex reflects the mutual benefits for both the event organizers and the county itself. With a supportive county administration and an ideal venue, the Texas 4-H State Horse Show promises to continue to be a premier equestrian event in the region for years to come.
