Residents of Brazos County have been asked to brace themselves for a week-long heatwave that is expected to sweep across the region. The National Weather Service’s Houston office has put a heat advisory into effect from noon to 8 p.m., with expectations of hot conditions persisting throughout the forthcoming week.

The heat index, a measure of how hot it feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature, is projected to reach up to 108 degrees across the entire Brazos Valley. This trend is expected to continue for the next six days, with Bryan-College Station area forecasted to experience a maximum heat index of 106 to 108 every day.
Increased Risk of Heat-Related Illnesses
Such prolonged exposure to extreme heat raises the risk of heat-related illnesses. Those engaged in strenuous outdoor activities and those without access to air conditioning are particularly vulnerable, the agency cautioned.
