Brazos County Commission Awards Construction Contract For Drainage Improvements

Construction planned between the Tax Office and Extension Office

Brazos County, Texas – In our latest update from the Brazos County Commission, a construction contract of $704,000 has been given a green light designed to enhance drainage between the county’s extension office and the tax office. The area has been plagued by ongoing issues with water runoff, particularly following periods of significant rainfall, causing inconvenience and potential safety hazards to the public.

An Overview of the Project

The award was granted following a unanimous vote by the County’s commissioners at their meeting on July 23rd. The primary goal of this effort is to mitigate issues caused by stormwater pooling. The county’s purchasing agent, Charles Wendt, emphasized that this improvement is a much-needed step given the regular occurrence of problems near the extension office entrance due to substantial rainfall.

As part of the project, existing structures such as sidewalks, concrete paving, and raised planter beds are slated for demolition. The project also includes significant land grading adjustments to aid in water runoff, installation of new underground pipes to assist in water flow, and finally reinstating the concrete upon completion of the underground work.

In addition to the drainage improvements, plans include the construction of an expanded canopy at the front entrance of the tax office. This will provide coverage for individuals during inclement weather as they enter and exit the office premises.

Projected Timeline

Wendt expects the project to be completed within a timeframe of 90 days, subject to weather conditions. At present, it is unclear when the work will commence, however, all parties are eager to begin in order to rectify the ongoing drainage problem which has troubled the area for some time.
