Hillier Funeral Home Launches Annual Blanket Drive to Support the Unhoused in Bryan-College Station

Hillier Funeral Home Kicks Off Annual Blanket Drive in Bryan-College Station

Have you felt that chill in the air yet? While the temperatures in Bryan-College Station haven’t dropped significantly yet, there’s a heartfelt initiative underway to ensure no one in the community has to face the winter cold alone. Hillier Funeral Home is once again gearing up for its annual Hillier Hearts Blanket Drive, a truly touching effort that promises warmth and comfort to those in need.

A Tribute to a Local Hero

This year’s drive is particularly special, as it honors the memory of Al Sims, an unhoused Veteran who passed away in 2019. Al’s story resonated deeply with the staff at Hillier, prompting them to take action. Madison Ross, a Funeral Director at Hillier, shared her sentiments about the drive, saying, “Al’s passing affected us all, and with this initiative, we want to show our support for the unhoused members of our community.”

Madison, an Army veteran herself, emphasizes the urgency of aiding homeless veterans: “I served six years, and it really touches my heart knowing how high the rate of homeless veterans is. One Veteran is really too many,” she said with determination.

Making a Difference Together

The Hillier Hearts Blanket Drive is more than just a donation campaign; it’s a community effort. Partnering with the Brazos Valley nonprofit Twin City Mission, Hillier Funeral Home collects gently used coats and blankets to distribute to those in need. Madison explained that Twin City Mission plays a crucial role: “They bring in all the supplies for us to take care of the community,” she said. “Once we’ve gathered enough donations, we reach out to them to ensure we’re meeting the community’s needs.”

How You Can Help

So how can you get involved in this wonderful initiative? It’s simple! If you have any gently used coats or blankets lying around, consider dropping them off at one of Hillier’s locations during business hours. It’s a great way to help ensure that others can stay warm throughout the winter months.

If you want to learn more about the drive or need additional information, you can visit Hillier’s website or give them a call at (979) 985-2060. Every little bit counts, and your contributions can make a big difference in someone’s life!

A Warm Community Spirit

This blanket drive is a perfect reminder of the power of community and the warmth that comes from lending a helping hand. As the colder months approach, it’s an opportunity for all of us in Bryan-College Station to rally together and support those who need it most.

Let’s help spread the word about the Hillier Hearts Blanket Drive. Whether you decide to donate or share this information with friends, there are countless ways to show that we care. Remember, it’s the small gestures of kindness that can have the most significant impact. Together, we can make sure that no one feels the chill of winter without a warm coat or blanket to wrap them up in comfort.

So this winter, let’s embrace the spirit of giving and warmth in our beautiful Bryan-College Station community!
