Texas A&M Athletics Director Trev Alberts has announced that Virginia associate head coach Blaire Anderson would serve as the new Director of Swimming and Diving for the Texas A&M Aggies. The announcement came on the heels of the university’s decision to merge the men’s and women’s swimming & diving programs and instead have a single ‘Director of Swimming & Diving’- a move prompted by the recent retirement of head women’s swimming & diving coach, Steve Bultman.
Anderson, a former assistant coach of Virginia’s swimming team, was praised by Alberts as a “bright, energetic young coach” who has an excellent record in recruiting for a championship program. Expressing her excitement for the new role, Anderson promised to embrace the core values of Texas A&M, while emphasizing her commitment to student-athletes and a vision of leading the team to new heights.
Having joined the UVA coaching staff in August 2017, Anderson earned her reputation as an exceptional recruiter, seeing her women’s team bag the No. 1 & No. 2 recruiting classes and the men’s team secure No. 3 & No. 9 in the NCAA. Her performance led to her promotion to associate head coach in 2021.
Anderson’s coaching prowess further shone when she led Virginia’s women’s team to their first NCAA Championship in 2020-21. During her tenure, UVA clinched six national titles in individual and relay events- the most ever by an ACC program. The Cavaliers had 12 athletes named to CSCAA All-America Teams (10 first team and two second team). Virginia also won its third women’s ACC Championship in four years, and a league-record 17th overall.
This season, the Aggie women finished 3rd at the 2024 SEC Championships and 14th at NCAAs. The Aggie men came in 4th in the SEC and 16th at NCAAs. With Anderson now at the helm, and her proven record of stellar recruitment and coaching, Texas A&M’s swimming and diving program looks set for further success in the coming seasons.
