Big Changes Coming to Bryan: A New Hope for Tech Startups!

Hey there, Bryan residents! Have you heard the buzz? There’s some exciting news for our city that could significantly reshape our local economy. In a recent city council meeting held on November 12, there was unanimous agreement on a plan that’s about to inject some serious vitality into Bryan’s business landscape.

Plug and Play: The Game Changer!

Let’s talk about the star of the show: Plug and Play, a company specializing in recruiting technology startups, particularly in the defense and aerospace industries. Sounds fancy, right? This company has a proven track record, having previously worked with big names like Google and PayPal. Mayor Bobby Gutierrez shared that the city council learned about Plug and Play during an economic development trip to California, where they were highly impressed with Plug and Play’s success stories. “They will be able to go around the world and bring in different companies to potentially locate here, develop here, and grow here,” the mayor stated with enthusiasm.

So, what does this mean for us? The city council has decided to invest $350,000 over the next three years into bringing Plug and Play to our community! And that’s not all. The newly named Greater Brazos Partnership (previously known as the Brazos Valley Economic Development Corporation) will chip in another $350,000, and the Texas A&M system will contribute $800,000. Now that’s what we call teamwork!

Jobs and Growth Opportunities Ahead

As part of this initiative, Plug and Play will not just set up shop; they will also be hiring four full-time employees and forming a four-member advisory committee. What’s cool about this committee is that two members will be appointed by the city council! It’s a fantastic way to ensure that our interests are represented as we welcome new businesses into our region.

Infrastructure Upgrades in Bryan and College Station

interlocal agreement for sewer services, specifically addressing homeowner concerns in south Bryan regarding a new sewer trunkline. $5 million to $10 million for College Station. However, the cities believe this is a better long-term solution that will ensure both areas have upgraded sewer capacity. The College Station blog even mentioned that Bryan will contribute up to $200,000 toward a future project to redirect sanitary sewer flow and improve services to specific areas.
