Bryan, TX – False Police Report and Assault Arrests

Noteworthy events in Bryan, TX saw the arrest of a local man on grounds of filing a false police report against his elderly grandmother. Furthermore, a Brazos County Jail inmate is behind bars for attacking another inmate.

Bryan Man Arrested for Filing A False Police Report

Darrius Smith, 19, was initially taken into custody on charges of causing an emergency response to his 84-year-old grandmother’s residence by asserting she pointed a rifle at him. However, officials found the claim implausible as the grandmother is an elderly woman who uses a walker. Furthermore, the claimed rifle was found stored behind a bulky heater and laundry basket, covered in dust, revealing that it hasn’t been in use for a significant period.

Curiously, Smith eluded law enforcement officers soon after his arrest and ran out of an indoor parking area at the Brazos County jail. He was later found, handcuffed, concealing himself outside an apartment complex across Sandy Point Road from the jail.

Smith remains in custody as of April 18th, with bonds amounting to $12,000 due to charges of filing a false report and escaping.

Brazos County Jail Inmate Arrested for Assault

Parallelly, a disconcerting incident unfolded at Brazos County Jail where an inmate assaulted another during a prayer walk. Maria Prado, 33, took offense at the religious gathering and hit one of the participants twice on the forehead leading to noticeable swelling and redness.

Prado confessed to the assault, stating she halted her attack because the victim did not resort to retaliation. She is a habitual offender, with this being her 18th arrest since March 2008. She had previously been charged with crimes ranging from human smuggling to controlled substance possession, hailing from various counties including Val Verde, Brazos, and Edwards.

Prado is currently being held on bonds that total $63,000.
