Early morning operations conducted by College Station PD, aided by reports from vigilant community members, have led to the arrest of two individuals on charges related to marijuana and firearm possession.
At around 5 a.m. on Thursday morning, the Special Investigative Unit, alongside SWAT members, executed a search warrant at The Grove at Southwood, an apartment complex nestled along Welsh Avenue, near the Southwest Parkway of College Station. There, three individuals were contacted by the police, and two, Monica and Kaden Luna, both from College Station, were subsequently arrested.
The pair were booked into Brazos County jail later on charges of marijuana possession, with Kaden also facing additional charges for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Online jail records reveal a history of multiple previous charges for Kaden, including assaults causing bodily injury, family violence, disorderly conduct with a firearm, and engaging in organized criminal activity, among others. This arrest marked his 11th booking into the county jail since 2019.
The crucial part community participation played in these arrests has not gone unnoticed by the authorities. Ofc. David Simmons, a member of the Special Investigative Unit, stressed the importance of reporting suspicious activities to the police, encouraging the community to stay vigilant and help in the fight against illegal activities.
“If [people] see something that’s suspicious, give us a call. Whether that be from narcotics sales or people walking around, things like that,” Simmons recommended. “That way we can come out and we can investigate it, which is what led to this; us being able to investigate this and hopefully get some illegal drugs off the street.”
Both the authorities and community members have hailed these arrests as a crucial step in ensuring the safety and security of the neighborhood. Simmons expressed his pleasure in having contributed to this endeavor, saying, “It feels good. We strive to protect our community, to keep the community safe.”
