Mar 12, 2024

Texas A&M’s star pitcher, Emiley Kennedy, has won the prestigious national pitcher of the week award from d1softball.com. The exceptional player earned this accolade after playing an instrumental role in all three wins against South Carolina, marking the opening of the Southeastern Conference’s play.

Outstanding Performance Secures Victory

In the three games against South Carolina, Kennedy put up an impressive performance. In Friday’s 3-0 victory, she allowed five hits and struck out 10, granting three walks. Saturday’s game saw her pitch for five innings of shutout relief, securing another win ending 2-1. Here, she struck out four and gave a single walk. In Sunday’s 2-1 victory, she earned savannah by retiring the last three batters, further contributing to the conference’s opening sweep.

National Recognition

Kennedy’s impressive 12-1 performance ties her for the nation’s lead in victories alongside Coastal Carolina’s Raelee Brabham (12-2). Moreover, her six shutouts tie Maddie Penta of Auburn and Karlyn Pickens from Tennessee for the most in the country. This recognition propels her into the national spotlight and is a testament to her setting the bar high for others to follow.

Other National Honorees

In addition to Kennedy’s recognition, Oklahoma junior Cydney Sanders was named d1softball.com’s national player of the week. She reached base ten times in 12 plate appearances, boasting five extra-base hits, four homers among them, and walked five times in the three-game sweep over Iowa State.

Florida’s Ava Brown earned the title as the freshman of the week from d1softball.com. She secured an 11-2 victory over Alabama as the winning pitcher and played first base in the other two games. She had four runs brought in while going 4 for 8 at the plate.

Looking Forward

With these significant national accolades and parallel top performances, A&M’s Emiley Kennedy strides confidently forward. With her eyes keenly set on future victories, there is no doubt that she will continue to be an instrumental player as the Aggies gear up to face Mississippi State this coming weekend.
