In a thrilling encounter that went into extra innings, the No. 8 Texas A&M softball team fell short to No. 9 Florida in an adrenaline-charged 9-8 defeat. The closely contested match took place on Saturday afternoon at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
Texas A&M (39-11, 15-8 SEC) showcased a strong performance by erasing a six-run deficit to force the game into extra innings. However, their valiant comeback was put to an end when the Gators loaded the bases and hit a one-out single to hand the Aggies their eighth one-run loss this season.
At the end of the second inning, the Aggies were trailing 8-2. The dynamic duo of Trinity Cannon and Koko Wooley turned the tides in favor of the Aggies. Cannon blasted a solo home run in the third inning while Wooley slapped an infield single in the fifth. A couple of throwing errors from the Gators cleared the bases, narrowing the gap to 8-6.
In the seventh inning, with one out, Wooley pulled out another magnificent move by driving in the game-tying run. A two-RBI single up the middle saw Jazmine Hill and Scout Lovell touching the home plate, ending the inning at an exciting tie, 8-8.
The Gators (42-12, 16-7 SEC) opened the scoring with three runs from four hits. Rylen Wiggins hit her 25th career home run to make it 3-2, but the Gators responded with five runs on five hits, including a grand slam. The tie was broken in the eighth inning when the Gators hit a game-winning single with a loaded base.
Texas A&M would be looking to bounce back in the series as they play their next game on Sunday at 12 p.m. on ESPN2.
Koko Wooley finished 4-for-4, with 2 RBI, and 1 SB. Rylen Wiggins, with her 2-for-4 performance, hit 1 HR and scored 2 RBI and 1 R. Trinity Cannon also performed well with a 1-for-2 record, hitting 1 HR.
