Aggie Muster Ceremonies Set to Honor Fallen Aggies with Over 300 Events Worldwide

College Station is getting ready for a heartfelt tradition that spans generations as the 2025 Aggie Muster ceremonies gear up to be held around the globe in April 2025. It’s a time when Aggies, near and far, come together to honor their fallen comrades with warmth and camaraderie.

What’s particularly exciting this year is that more than 300 Aggie Musters are already in the planning stages, with over 200 events officially registered for 2025. This number is expected to increase as more communities rally to host their own gatherings. Enthusiastic volunteers are being sought to help capture the special moments at local Musters through photography, which adds another layer of connection for attendees.

Getting Involved and Making Memories

For those interested in volunteering, it’s easy to get started! Volunteers can sign up to help with photography, and they’ll be invited to participate in two informational Zoom meetings before the event. It’s a wonderful opportunity for anyone who wants to contribute to this cherished ceremony while meeting fellow Aggies.

In addition to volunteers helping out, the Muster Committee is busy preparing for the selection of Muster Hosts. These special student volunteers will guide families through the ceremony, ensuring everyone feels welcome and supported. Applications opened on February 3 and closed on February 12, while interviews took place from February 17 to February 27, with results announced on March 3. All applicants had to attend an informational meeting before they could apply for the position.

A Tradition Steeped in History

The tradition of Muster has been going strong since 1883, when it began as a way to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto. Over the years, it has transformed into a solemn yet uplifting event that honors Aggies who have passed away in the preceding year. The largest Hundfest occurs every spring at Reed Arena, bringing together thousands of Aggies and their families for a shared remembrance of those they have lost.

During the ceremony, there’s a poignant Roll Call, which involves calling out the names of deceased Aggies, with family members or friends responding with a heartfelt “Here” for each name. This moment encapsulates the spirit of belonging and community that underlies the Aggie experience. Esteemed speakers at past Musters have included distinguished guests such as the Texas A&M President and retired military generals, further deepening the significance of the gathering.

Creating Connections Through Tradition

Attending Muster is not just about honoring those who have passed but also about creating connections with fellow Aggies—some who may be attending for the very first time. For many, the role of the Muster Host is a vital one that embodies the hospitality and respect fostered within the Aggie community. Sharing the unique experiences and stories of their first Muster offers a beautiful glimpse into the tradition that binds Aggies across the world.

This year, with the anticipation of more than 300 events, Muster is set to be a profound reminder of the bonds shared among Aggies throughout the ages. As they gather together to celebrate values of honor, respect, and tradition, each event stands as a testament to the enduring Aggie spirit that thrives no matter the distance.

So, as April approaches, make sure to check the specific date and time for your local Muster, as not all events are held on April 21. The 2024 Muster information is readily available for curious souls looking to learn more. The experiences gained through this cherished event continue to enrich hearts and foster community among Aggies, proving that the legacy of Muster is not just about remembering, but also about celebrating the connections that make us feel whole.
