College Station Weather Update: Rain, Cold, and Exciting New Radar!

Hey, College Station! It’s been quite a whirlwind of weather lately, and we’ve got some juicy details to share with you. Just this past Thursday, our lovely little town decided to give us a taste of something we hadn’t seen for a while: rain. In fact, we recorded a whopping 1.54 inches of rain, making it the highest amount we’ve seen since July 18, 2024. That date was memorable for another reason too, as it was the last time our weather station at Easterwood Airport saw such significant rainfall, reaching 2.1 inches that day.

Temperatures Dropping!

If you thought the rain was all we had to deal with, think again! Alongside that rainfall came some seriously chilly temperatures. On Thursday, the Easterwood Airport’s thermometer dipped to a low of 37 degrees and peaked at just 43 degrees. That’s quite a bit below the usual norms for this time of year, where we typically expect highs in the low 60s and lows in the low 40s.

What’s Next? More Cold Weather!

Looking ahead, the National Weather Service has officially declared a cold weather advisory for the Brazos Valley, forecasting temperatures to stay on the cooler side. This Saturday, we can expect a high near 52 degrees and lows dropping down to around 34 degrees. For context, that’s quite the drop from our regular January temperatures!

If you’re into weather records, let’s not forget that the biggest rainfall ever recorded for January 9 in College Station is 5.63 inches, which was set back in 1991. We’re a long way from that, but maybe this rain event is the start of something more dramatic!

Storm Warnings and Freeze Alerts

As if that wasn’t enough, it looks like we’ve got severe thunderstorms possibly heading our way. Texans are advised to brace for potential risks that include large hail, strong winds capable of causing damage, and even a chance of tornadoes. It’s not just the thunderstorms we need to be worried about; a freeze warning has also been issued for Brazos County until 9 a.m. on Monday. Can you feel the excitement?

Following the anticipated cold front this Sunday, temperatures are expected to plummet rapidly. Residents might want to prepare for the possibility of seeing 20s and 30s come Monday morning. The early days of the workweek could mean continuous temperatures around freezing with highs lingering only in the 40s.

Be Prepared!

It’s essential to prepare for the extreme weather we may soon face. This means addressing the needs of your pets, plants, pipes, and people. Make sure your furry friends are cozy, keep your plants protected from the freeze, and let’s not forget about insulating pipes to prevent any icy mishaps.
