College Station Sees Surge in Violence and Crime

In the typically tranquil area of College Station, recent weeks have witnessed a troubling rise in violence and criminal activities. A series of alarming incidents have led to multiple arrests, sparking concern among residents. Here’s a rundown of what has transpired.

Assault Case Involving Infant Sparks Outrage

The heart-wrenching case of a 19-year-old woman, identified as Zamiya Zerronique Thomas, is at the forefront of this shocking spree of arrests. Thomas was taken into custody on charges of assaulting her boyfriend and reportedly hitting their two-month-old baby. The incident occurred at the Woodbrook Condos when another couple tried to intervene and help Thomas and her family.

In shocking detail, reports indicate that during the altercation, Thomas not only assaulted her boyfriend while he held their baby but also caused property damage and shattered glass in the apartment. Fortunately, no one was injured in this chaotic scene.

Adding to the drama, a resident of the condos brandished a handgun for self-defense during the incident, although the weapon was not fired. This incident is particularly troubling as Thomas had a prior arrest on her record, related to family violence.

Currently, she remains in the Brazos County Jail with a hefty bond set at $30,300, facing serious charges including a state jail felony and a Class C misdemeanor.

Armed Robbery at Local Restaurant

Kameron Deonjay Lewis, a 17-year-old, in connection with an armed robbery that took place at The Cookshack restaurant. The robbery occurred early Tuesday morning around 8:40 a.m., leaving the victim shaken but thankfully unharmed. Lewis reportedly stole the victim’s purse while brandishing a firearm.

Witnesses described Lewis as a “younger black male” wearing cream-colored pants and a colorful jacket as he fled the scene towards the Spring Loop area. Police responded swiftly by searching the nearby Halston Apartments but were unable to locate him at first. Eventually, officers found Lewis hiding in an apartment and charged him with Aggravated Robbery.

Firearm Smuggling Operation Unearthed

A significant breakthrough in local law enforcement efforts came when three individuals—Gregory Chambers, Trederrious Jeffery, and Devontae Franklin—were arrested and charged with Organized Criminal Activity in connection with a firearm smuggling operation. This investigation began when Jeffery was caught breaking into vehicles in Bryan.

Authorities uncovered a crime ring involved in selling stolen firearms, including handguns, rifles, and shotguns, using jail call recordings and witness interviews. One key figure in this operation was a young associate known as “Trap,” who allegedly assisted in hiding and selling at least some of the weapons.

Jeffery, who already faced charges related to evading arrest and vehicle burglary, now finds himself in even deeper trouble with additional felony charges on the table.

Violent Assault Incident with Firearms

45-year-old man named George Horton was charged early Wednesday with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly pointed a gun at a woman during a violent altercation. Reports indicate he also pushed the woman against a wall and physically assaulted two others.

Authorities discovered Horton with a 9mm handgun matching the description related to the assault. This incident marks a direct violation of his community supervision terms stemming from a previous misdemeanor assault conviction.

As College Station grapples with these pressing issues of violence and crime, residents are understandably concerned about safety. Community members hope for swift justice as local law enforcement continues to crack down on crime and maintain peace in their beloved city.
