During her chat, Gray emphasized how the Jingle Book Bash aims to spread joy through literature while also supporting local initiatives. The details are still cooking, but mark your calendars! Texas House Training: Getting the Scoop from Representative-Elect Paul Dyson
In other news, newly elected members of the Texas House recently wrapped up a thrilling training session in Austin, aimed at prepping them for their work this legislative session. Among them was our very own state representative-elect Paul Dyson from Bryan. Dyson was busy absorbing a whirlwind of information in sessions that lasted from eight to ten hours each day last Tuesday through Friday.
Dyson has also been busy assembling his staff and is hunting for a new place to call home. His weekend was spent casting his vote during the House Republican caucus, where he expressed his support for the caucus nominee, David Cook of Mansfield, during the speaker vote. Dyson hopes to see a united front from House Republicans when the legislative session kicks off next month. “We need to put the chaos behind us,” Dyson said, reflecting on the recent fracturing within the caucus.
On top of this, Dyson is already drafting a bill that proposes stiffer penalties for attempted capital murder or attempted murder of a police officer. He’s also looking into a resolution that calls for federal reimbursement for Texas’s costs in border security. Constituents can keep in touch with Dyson through his campaign website or Facebook page. Communication is key, so don’t hesitate to reach out!
Another Arrest: Deontae Williams Back in Jail
In somewhat concerning news, we have a story involving Deontae Williams, a Bryan man who has returned to jail for the third time since April 2024 and for the 19th time since April 2014. This latest incident unfolded when a Brazos County sheriff’s deputy pulled over a car due to excessively dark window tint.
Upon smelling marijuana, the deputy’s instincts kicked in, leading to a search of the vehicle. What was discovered? Two large bags containing over two and a half pounds of marijuana! This wasn’t just a simple stash, as it was discovered near a baby in a car seat—a shocking twist indeed. Williams denied ownership of the marijuana but did claim the cash found on him.
In total, $4,285 in cash was seized, leaving many with questions about what led to this situation. Williams, who remains in jail as of December 9th, is currently facing a hefty bond of $100,000 for the new charge, along with a $150,000 bond for an upcoming trial linked to an aggravated assault charge. The situation is undoubtedly serious, and we’ll keep our ears to the ground for updates.
Road Closures Ahead in College Station
And finally, for those traveling around College Station, heads up! Starting Tuesday, December 10, Lincoln Avenue will be closed in both directions between Texas and Tarrow. Officials have made it clear that the closure is necessary for the safety of both motorists and construction workers as they work to rebuild Lincoln.
Don’t expect this closure to be short-lived; it’s anticipated to last until May 2025, weather permitting. Plan your routes accordingly and stay safe on the roads!
There you go, Bryan! A wrap-up of updates that affect our community. Whether it’s getting involved in Jingle Book Bash or keeping track of local legislation, there’s always something keeping us busy. Until next time, stay informed and engaged!
