Brenham Residents Unite for a Heartwarming Cause at Annual Food Drive
In a spirit of giving and togetherness, residents of Brenham and neighboring areas gathered on Wednesday to contribute to the KBTX Food for Families Food Drive. This cherished event, now in its 29th year, aims to support the Brazos Valley Food Bank and its partner agencies, and it has truly become a wholesome tradition in our communities.
Making a Difference Together
This year, Washington County proudly participated for the fourth consecutive year at the Washington County Expo. The event offered seven convenient drop-off locations, allowing everyone to join in the effort to fight food insecurity. As of Thursday morning, Washington County had already gathered a whopping 10,684 pounds of food and $5,612 in monetary donations—not even counting the online contributions!
Carl Prihoda, a board member at the Brazos Valley Food Bank, emphasized how vital this event is for the community. “The collaboration we see here makes a real difference for thousands of people facing hunger,” he said. The contributions collected stay local, meaning the food donated in Washington County will directly benefit organizations like Bread Partners of Washington County, Burton Bridge Ministry, Faith Mission & Help Center, and Prairie Hill Food Pantry.
Counties Banding Together
But it wasn’t just Washington County stepping up to the plate! The food drive also saw enthusiastic participation from nearby counties such as Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Madison, and Robertson. This spirit of unity is something truly special. The final tallies from these other counties are still being determined, leaving everyone excited to see how much they will collectively contribute.
A Big Thank You!
Huge thanks go out to everyone who played a role in making the food drive a success! From the organizers and coordinators to the countless volunteers and generous donors, it’s a community-driven effort that showcases the very best of Brenham and its surroundings. Special appreciation was expressed to KBTX, Washington County, and the Brenham and Burton Independent School Districts, along with local businesses and corporate sponsors who contributed in various ways.

In times like these, when the world can feel a bit overwhelming, it’s heartwarming to see communities come together for such a noble cause. Every can of food, every dollar donated, and every moment volunteered counts. Together, we are not just fighting hunger; we are building a brighter, more connected future for everyone in our beloved Texas. Let’s keep this momentum going and continue to uplift each other!
