Nashville Gears Up for SEC Cross Country Championships
Nashville, Tenn. – Get ready folks, because the Vanderbilt Commodores are putting on their running shoes for the big dance this Friday! Yes, the SEC Championships are just around the corner at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course in College Station, Texas. These student-athletes have been training hard, and the excitement is palpable as they prepare to tackle the competition head-on!
Men’s Team: Fresh Faces Stealing the Spotlight
On the men’s side, all eyes have been on freshman Michael Skora, who has been the heartbeat of the team throughout the season. He kicked off his collegiate career in style with an impressive victory at the Belmont Opener, setting the tone for what’s been a fantastic season for this young prodigy. But it doesn’t stop there! Michael has also secured top 15 finishes at both the Southern Showcase and the highly competitive Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, placing among the top 5 freshmen runners in those events.
Vanderbilt sophomore Brady Bliven has also been making his mark, consistently finishing as the second top runner for the Commodores. He recently recorded an 8-kilometer personal best at the Joe Piane Invitational, snagging a top 25 placement! With talent like this, it’ll be thrilling to see how they perform at the SEC Championships.
Women’s Team: A Diverse Group of Stars
Switching gears to the women’s squad, we have diverse leadership emerging throughout the season. In fact, four different runners have been leading the charge at each one of their regular season meets. It all began with senior Cameron Fawcett, who set a high bar by securing a runner-up finish during the Belmont Opener. Talk about a strong start!
Next up, sophomore Bria Bennis took over the spotlight at the Southern Showcase, becoming the first Commodore to cross the finish line after racing against a whopping 459 competitors! She finished eighth overall, which shows just how fierce the competition can get.
Then, there’s senior Julia Rosenberg, who led the team at the Joe Piane Invitational with an impressive top 50 finish in the Blue division. And to round it all off, graduate student Ellie Wolski paved the way for the team’s fantastic third-place finish at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals, finishing ninth individually! With this kind of depth, the women’s team is bound to make an impact at the championships.
A Bright Future Ahead
At last year’s SEC Championships, the Commodore women finished seventh—marking their best finish since 2020. Meanwhile, the men placed 12th. This year, they’re looking to build on those successes and take it to the next level!
