Breaking Down the Sets
As the first set began, the Lady Cougars quickly jumped out to a commanding lead, stretching it to a daunting eight-point advantage at one point, sitting pretty at 12-4. But the Cubettes weren’t going down without a fight; they rallied and cut the deficit to just four points at 17-13. However, with their impressive teamwork and skill, College Station pulled ahead once more, finishing the set with an 8-3 run that left the Cubettes trailing behind.
In the second set, the story was much the same. The Lady Cougars built another significant lead, going up 16-6 early on. Brenham made valiant efforts to close the gap, but the closest they could manage was a five-point difference at 24-19, before College Station sealed the deal on the set.
Things took an interesting turn in the third set when the Cubettes sprang into action, zooming to an early 10-4 lead. Perhaps sensing that victory was within reach, Brenham fans were on the edge of their seats. However, the determined Lady Cougars quickly evened the score at 10-10. With both teams trading points fiercely, it was College Station that ultimately gained momentum with a powerful 9-3 run, clinching the match.
A Cause Close to Heart
In addition to the thrilling volleyball action, the event also served a greater purpose. The Brenham Volleyball Program raised an impressive $4,631 for the Side Out Foundation for Breast Cancer. This charitable initiative resonated with the community, highlighting the team’s commitment to both sport and social causes. As the evening wrapped up, they were still awaiting payments from T-shirt sales and additional proceeds from a fundraiser hosted by Kendra Scott, showcasing the community’s passion and generosity.
