Latest News from College Station

Exciting and serious events have been unfolding in College Station recently. From criminal activities to community development initiatives, there’s a lot to keep everyone informed. Let’s dive into the latest developments!

Serious Charges for Jorge Aguina Jr.

In March 2024, the Brazos County grand jury issued an indictment against Jorge Aguina Jr., a 23-year-old man, on several alarming charges. He faces allegations of aggravated kidnapping involving sexual abuse, assaulting a pregnant woman, and evading arrest. According to the arrest report from the Brazos Police Department, Aguina managed to escape from police during two high-speed chases. The first chase reached terrifying speeds of over 80 miles per hour, and the second soared above an astonishing 115 miles per hour. It’s worth noting that as of October 3rd, Aguina remains in custody with bonds totaling $200,000.

Police Action in Vehicle Incidents

On the early morning of October 6th, College Station police got a call from College Station Ford regarding a man entering vehicles at their dealership. When officers arrived, they arrested 37-year-old Bradley Dean Smith of Bryan, who was found evading law enforcement and committing criminal trespassing. This incident marked Smith’s 15th arrest in 17 years. Curiously enough, at the time of his arrest, he was already out on bond for a family violence assault charge. Currently, he is held in jail with bonds set at $6,000.

Teenager Arrested for Vehicle Burglaries

In another alarming incident, 18-year-old Treshawn Booker was apprehended for a string of vehicle burglaries that took place during the last week of September. According to arrest reports from the College Station Police Department, Booker confessed to breaking into at least ten vehicles in the Barracks subdivision and stealing an SUV. Shortly thereafter, he allegedly broke into another car in Creek Meadows and stole a handgun. Interestingly, Booker was arrested two days later in Houston for carrying the stolen weapon. He is currently in custody in Brazos County, facing bonds totaling $71,000.

Driving Under the Influence

Another incident unfolded on October 2nd when police responded to a report of an SUV crashing into a house. Witnesses described the SUV swerving dangerously, prompting officers to take action. The driver, 47-year-old Felicia Glover of College Station, failed sobriety tests and admitted to consuming wine and taking a prescription sleeping pill before hitting the road. It’s unclear whether anyone was home during the collision, but Glover was released after posting a $2,000 bond.

City’s Housing Development Initiative

On a brighter note, the College Station city council is taking steps to enhance the housing situation in the area. Recently, they approved pursuing a $3.6 million federal housing grant that, if received, would cover three key areas. The funds could help the city buy and repair homes, helping low-income residents or non-profits offer housing to those needing it. The grant may also focus on creating affordable housing through increased housing density or conducting a comprehensive housing study to identify capacity in the area.
