College Station Sees Multiple Arrests Over Gun Threats and Evidence Tampering
In the bustling city of College Station, recent events have drawn the attention of both law enforcement and local residents, as police made several arrests connected to firearm threats and evidence tampering. The incidents occurred near the well-known Anderson Park, a popular spot for families and friends in the area.
Gunman Threatens Another Man
On a seemingly ordinary day, 33-year-old Brandolyn McCoy found himself in a heap of trouble after allegedly threatening to shoot another man outside a residence. According to college station police department (CSPD) reports, officers arriving at the scene seized an impressive arsenal, including an A-R style rifle, a shotgun, three handguns, and a substantial amount of ammunition.
McCoy, who was previously convicted of armed robbery in Walker County, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. This wasn’t McCoy’s first brush with the law; records show that he has been booked a staggering 14 times since December 2008. Although he faced these serious charges, it was reported that he managed to post an $8,000 bond shortly after his arrest.
Women Booked for Evidence Tampering
In a twist, two women were also taken into custody on charges of evidence tampering associated with the gun incident. Police witnessed the pair moving boxes containing the firearms and ammunition to an outdoor shed. The women, identified as Zanae Ford, 24, and Anita Ford, 36, also faced a quick trip to the Brazos County jail, where they were later released after posting the same $8,000 bond.
Interestingly, this incident marked Zanae Ford’s ninth booking since May 2023, with her most recent booking taking place just a month after serving 71 days of a 90-day sentence for violating a protection order and theft. Meanwhile, Anita Ford is awaiting trial on a separate misdemeanor theft charge and is still working to pay off outstanding traffic tickets.
Juvenile Arrests for Gun-Related Incidents
As troubling as the incidents involving McCoy and the two women are, they’re part of a larger trend in the area. In the aftermath of a Bryan High student being arrested for possessing a gun in a backpack, another troubling incident unfolded. A Rudder High student found themselves arrested for making a false report involving a gun, creating unnecessary concern amongst parents and staff.
According to a spokesperson from Bryan Police Department, the student knowingly filed a false report when making the accusation. The Bryan Independent School District (BISD) has not yet issued a public statement regarding this alarming situation.
Additionally, a Navasota High School student was arrested for making a social media threat toward another student. The threat, which was not related to the school, led to a city announcement that the student was released to their parents while the juvenile probation office was also notified.
Commercial Building Fire in Bryan
In a separate incident, firefighters responded to a commercial building fire on Tuesday, September 24, at AG Solar Guard Window Tinting in south Bryan. Firefighters reported no injuries, and quick action helped control the flames. The cause was determined to be of electrical origin.
Fire crews arrived shortly after noon and had to manage heavy smoke and flames, showcasing their training and dedication to keeping the community safe. For around an hour, a portion of South Texas remained closed as firefighters put out the fire and ensured the area was secure.
Potential Tax Breaks for New Semiconductor Plant
In lighter news, Bryan ISD has placed its focus on possible property tax breaks for a new semiconductor manufacturing plant that may be built on the RELLIS campus. During a public meeting on September 23, school board members explored the prospect of providing tax incentives to a company known only as America’s Foundry Texas LLC.
With an anticipated investment of $11.6 billion and promises of job creation, board members expressed their hopes for economic growth. If all goes well, the facility could employ 5,000 people over the next several years.
