Aggie Conversations: A Forum For Understanding

Aggie Conversations represents a valuable moment in the week for the Aggie community, featuring enlightening panel discussions aimed at fostering understanding and unity amongst its members. Launched in the summer of 2020, these sessions typically take place every Tuesday at noon, providing a safe space for non-Black Aggies to delve into the Black experience in America and Texas A&M.

For those interested in joining the discussion with Paul Stafford, you can register here in advance. All previous sessions have been recorded and can be viewed at your convenience here.

About Paul Stafford ’90

As managing partner for Stafford Moore PLLC, Paul Stafford has established a reputation as a thought leader and advocate in his field. His return to Aggie Conversations is eagerly awaited, promising intriguing and thought-provoking discourse.

About the Founders

Aggie Conversations is the brainchild of Ken Robinson ’93, a proud alumni from Grand Prairie, Texas. Alongside Rodney Pennywell ’86, they serve as hosts to these enlightening events. Robinson is not only the founder and CEO of CIS-Computer Innovation Services Inc. but is a current board member of The Association of Former Students. He was also instrumental in establishing the Black Former Student Network, a chartered constituent network of The Association. His diverse involvement within the Aggie community further emphasizes the importance of these continuous discussions and their aim at enhancing mutual comprehension.

A Framework for Dialogue, A Space for Understanding

What makes Aggie Conversations stand out is its emphasis on dialogue over debate. Everyone – Aggie participants, Black and White, and guest speakers – are encouraged to engage, but always with the goal of seeking understanding rather than winning points. The discussions are not critiques, but open-minded explorations of the Black experience.

The first hour is conducted in a formal Q&A style where all participants are muted, except for the moderator and guest speaker. In the second hour, the floor is opened up for everyone to unmute and actively participate. All participants are required to enable video to ensure interactive and respectful exchanges.

In adhering to this format, Aggie Conversations has managed to construct a viable platform where documented, transparent discourse can exist to the advantage of all involved, cementing its role in the fight for awareness, understanding, and unity.

The Road Ahead

The upcoming session with Paul Stafford is yet another step in the path charted by Aggie Conversations. It underlines their commitment to fostering open, informed, and respectful discussions within the Aggie community — discussions that not only explore racial experiences and histories but also foster mutual respect and unity amongst members.
