Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and Watch UR BAC Campaign Remind Drivers: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

Road Safety Campaign Gathers Momentum in Texas

Across Texas, public concern about the rise in alcohol-related road accidents continues to generate great urgency. To address this, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and the Watch UR BAC, a free educational program and campaign in Texas, comes yet again to the rescue. Today, both these organizations caution motorists through their robust initiative – Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

Cracking Down on Impaired Driving Starting August 14

Running from August 14 through September 2, the initiative coincides with the Labor Day holiday weekend. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration endorses this important event targeting road safety. The pivotal message to the citizens is clear and bare – if anyone drinks and takes the wheel, the chances of getting arrested are significantly high.

Why the Lengthy Enforcement?

The program’s seemingly extended duration aligns perfectly with the heightened holiday moods and ensuing festivities. During such times, the likelihood of people consuming alcohol and driving is higher. Thus, by running this enforcement period through the Labor Day holiday, the relevant bodies aim to mitigate instances of drunken driving.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension

A unit of the Texas A&M University System, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension broadly delivers programs in various sectors, including agriculture, youth development, family and community health, and much more. In line with their mission, this drive emphasizes community health by focusing on driver safety and accident prevention.

Watch UR BAC: Educating Texans on Safe and Sober Driving

Watch UR BAC is an educational program managed by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. The program’s commendable work has centered on enlightening Texans about impaired driving and drinking laws in the state. It also educates the public on how alcohol and other drugs affect the body and the dangerous implications of getting behind the wheel whilst under the influence.

Encouraging a Culture of Responsibility

This initiative encourages individuals to take personal responsibility during this festive period and beyond. That may mean planning a sober ride home if they plan to consume alcohol, designating a sober driver, or even staying the night where they are to ensure they, and others on the road, are safe.

Impact on Public Safety

These organizations’ commitment to public safety is commendable. By introducing initiatives that educate and enforce, they stand at the forefront of reducing fatalities and accidents related to impaired driving. The ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ operation serves not only as a warning to drivers but also acts as a life-saving initiative aimed at making Texas roads safer for all users.
