Filing Period Concludes for Local Elections in College Station and Bryan City
The Candidates for the Upcoming Elections
The local elections in College Station and Bryan City are heating up, with filing closing on Monday, August 19. Several contested races have emerged, notably for the City Council and School Board elections scheduled to take place later this year.
Three high-stake races have been confirmed for the College Station city council. For the place three seat, candidates David White and Valen Cepak will challenge each other. This seat becomes vacant as Linda Harvell cannot seek re-election due to term limits. Aron Collins, Craig Regan, and Melissa McIlhaney are vying for the place four seat, available as incumbent Elizabeth Cunha is not running for re-election. Bob Yancy, the incumbent, will run for re-election for place five.
For the place six seat, Tre Watson and Scott Shafer are in the race. Dennis Maloney, due to term limits, will not be contesting this term. Notably, incumbent Craig Regan changed his candidacy from place six to place four after Shafer entered the race for place six.
City of Bryan Candidates
Meanwhile, all four incumbent Bryan city council members filed for re-election and will face competition. In the single-member district three, incumbent Jared Salvato will face Robert Achgill. Shane Savage is challenging incumbent James Edge in district four, while Patrick Giammalva is running against incumbent Marca Ewers-Shurtleff in district five. In the at-large position, incumbent Kevin Boriskie will face off against Justin Wager.
School Board Elections
In the school board, single nominations have been filed for the two available positions on the College Station ISD board. Incumbent Darin Paine is seeking his second term as the at-large place one member, and Kristin Wilson is running for the at-large place two position, with incumbent Blaine Decker choosing not to seek re-election.
Two candidates have also entered the race for Bryan ISD school board. David Stennis is vying for the district-wide at-large seat, stepping into the contest as incumbent Mark McCall is not seeking re-election. Ruthie Waller is looking to secure her fourth term representing BISD’s single-member district four and will face former Bryan city councilman Buppy Simank.
