Transition at Texas A&M University’s Corps of Cadets
In a significant development at Texas A&M University, the beloved Commandant Brigadier General Patrick R. Michaelis is shifting gears and accepting a new role. The current Corps of Cadets commandant announced this move early Monday, much to the surprise of many affiliated with the university.

New Role for General Michaelis
Michaelis will take on a new position as the special assistant to the respected Texas A&M University President, General Mark Welsh III. This change follows 30 years of dedicated service in the US Army, and two pivotal years leading the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets as Commandant.
In a statement released by Michaelis, he stated, “One of the greatest passions of my life is the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. Its focus on developing leaders of character to face the global challenges of tomorrow necessitates our continual evolution while preserving what makes Aggieland so special.”
Interim Leadership for the Corps
As Michaelis transitions to his new role serving the university president, the interim corps commandant position will be filled by retired US Air Force Lieutenant Gen. Loyd S. “Chip” Utterback until a permanent commandant can be chosen.

With gratitude for his relentless dedication and significant contributions, President General Welsh expressed his thanks for Michaelis’ service, not just to the Corps of Cadets but also to Texas A&M University.
