Brazos County Commission Awards Construction Contract For Drainage Improvements

Brazos County Enacts Plan for Significant Drainage Improvements

In a decisive move to tackle ongoing rainfall-induced problems, the Brazos County Commission has awarded a $704,000 contract for a project aimed at improving drainage between the county’s extension office and the tax office. The project was unanimously voted into action during the county commission’s July 23, 2024 meeting.

Addressing Rainfall Issues

The county’s extension office has faced issues with significant rainfall in the past, with flooding becoming a concern. The purchasing agent for the county, Charles Wendt, shared his insights on this ongoing problem during an interview with local news sources. He noted that the drainage infrastructure was in desperate need of a comprehensive and streamlined solution.

Project Specifics

The drainage improvement project includes the demolition of current sidewalks, concrete paving, and raised flower beds. The land’s slope will be adjusted, and underground pipes will be subsequently installed for improved drainage capacity. The project also plans to replace the existing concrete once the underground installations are complete.

Another quality-of-life enhancement that comes as part of the projects includes the installation of a larger canopy at the front entrance of the tax office. This is intended to provide better shelter for taxpayers, especially during bouts of heavy rainfall. Wendt conveyed that the project is expected to be completed within a span of 90 days, weather permitting.

Unanimous Support From Commissioners

Prior to the unanimous voting in favor of the project, there were no comments from the commissioners, signifying solid support for the much-needed improvements. The proactive approach of the county commission in addressing these issues further highlights their commitment to creating a comfortable and efficient environment for the community.

Looking Ahead

This significant project is a testament to Brazos County’s commitment to investing in infrastructure that benefits its inhabitants and ensures the smooth running of vital county offices. It is expected that the finished improvements will greatly alleviate the concerns of taxpayers, county staff, and any other individuals frequenting the office. With the project anticipated to be completed by the end of the year, locals can look forward to an improved and more comfortable experience.
