Mochinut’s Donuts: A Dream Come True For Dessert Lovers

College Station, TX – Every dessert fan knows that the formula to a perfect treat encompasses a combination of unique flavors, an excellent texture, and a pleasant design. Mochinut, a popular restaurant blending Japanese mochi with classic American donuts, fulfills this formula to a great extent. Located in College Station, Mochinut, since its arrival in February 2024, has offered a new taste experience that dessert fans can’t resist.

Mochinut was established in California in 2020 and has quickly expanded throughout Houston. Capitalizing on the lack of sweet treats in Bryan-College Station, the restaurant offers innovative pastry options that combine the chewy, rich taste of Japanese mochi, a sweet rice dough, with the sweet, fluffy appeal of traditional American donuts. The result? Mochinut donuts.

Mochinut presents an entirely new landscape for dessert exploration, thanks to its dynamic flavor rollout every two weeks. Recently, we had the opportunity to sample six different flavors of Mochinut donuts and here’s what we found:

Original Glaze

One bite into the Original Glaze transports you back to relishing a hot funnel cake at the fair. Light yet indulgently sweet, the icing enhances the existing sweetness of the rich mochi interior, culminating in a pure delight for sweet-toothed folks. The dough is soft and easily comes apart, making this donut a must-try. Score: 7/10.

Peanut Butter and Jelly

What may sound like an odd pairing, Peanut Butter and Jelly Mochinut donut lends a pleasant surprise. The light, salty taste of peanut butter fuses wonderfully with the sweet hint of strawberry jelly, creating a unique flavor that’s worth a try. Score: 6.5/10.

Mango

Coated with a vibrant yellow mango icing, this donut is exceptionally delightful, with the tartness from real mango enhancing the rest of the warm dough. Score: 9/10.

White Chocolate Churro

A sinful combo of chocolate and caramel drizzle over a donut that tastes just a little more churro than donut. The salty, savory top, with extra sugar sprinkled, blends well with the sweet dough. Score: 8.5/10.

Chocolate Mocha

Similar in concept to the original glaze, except with a slightly darker icing sporting a soft chocolate flavor. The addition of dark mocha sprinkles on top enriches the inherent chocolatey tastes. Score: 9/10.

Double Ube

While its dark purple icing and dough may be a bit intimidating initially, this donut offers the most calm and slightly heavier taste, like the original glaze, with a light hint of coconut. Score: 7/10.

The wide array of Mochinut donuts delight with their decent texture and balanced flavors, not as heavy as conventional donuts. The restaurant itself is welcoming, with friendly staff ready to explain the flavors and concepts behind each treat. All these aspects contribute to its light and cheerful ambiance.

Mochinut is definitely worth your time, regardless of your favorite flavors, as they always have something new on display. Visit them at 1411 Wellborn Road in College Station and get the best dessert experience in town.
