Bryan Council Awards Incentives to Rejuvenate Commercial Property
Incentives for Redevelopment
In an attempt to spur development, the City of Bryan Council has awarded financial incentives to the new owner of a previously vacant commercial property. During a council meeting held on June 18, 2024, the council agreed to the reimbursement of up to $100,000 in remodeling costs to the property’s new owners.
The structure in question, a part of the former Wee Village center located at East 29th and Stillmeadow, is set to become a women’s fitness center that needed a new home. With plans to invest at least $200,000 into vital building refurbishments, the new owners have ambitious plans to breathe life back into the vacant building.
New Lease on Life
Among the proposed renovations, the plans include a new roof and shingles, repairing and replacing exterior panels and siding, and updating exterior signage. Notably, a planned mural on the building’s south side aims to welcome motorists traveling along 29th Street from the neighboring College Station area.

Former Police Officer Admits Misdemeanor Thefts in Court
In other local news, a former College Station police officer admitted to two misdemeanor thefts during a court hearing on July 1. De’Kedrick Anderson, 24, was sentenced to a probation period of one year and eight months, in addition to surrendering his peace officer’s license and completing 120 hours of community service. The thefts, occurred in July of the previous year, both involved amounts of less than $750.
Woman Arrested for Multiple Instances of Driving with Invalid License
On the evening of July 3, a Bryan woman was arrested for driving with an invalid license, marking her third conviction for the same offense. Alisa Starks, 55, was also found to be awaiting seven separate trials on the same charge. Starks was released on a $2,000 bond following her most recent arrest.
Local Radio Station Receives Nominations from Texas Country Music Association
In more positive local news, Bryan Broadcasting’s Maverick 100.9 has been nominated for two awards from the Texas Country Music Association. The station is listed among five finalists for Territorial Radio Station of the Year, and one of the station’s broadcasters, Corliss, is among the finalists for Broadcast Personality of the Year. Winners will be announced on November 18 in Fort Worth.
