In a bid to boost local economy, the Brazos Valley Economic Development Corporation organized a delegation trip to Japan from Bryan, College Station, Brazos County, and Texas A&M last week. The prime goal of this trip? To explore international business opportunities and encourage investment in Texas, particularly in Brazos County.
A Strong Impression
“When we showed up people knew who we were and they knew what we were doing,” said Bryan Mayor, Bobby Gutierrez. The delegation made a strong impression as they spoke with major companies throughout Tokyo and Kyoto, and journeyed on the iconic bullet train.
Why Texas?
What made these meetings significantly important was not just the interest from the Japanese companies, but the concrete plans being put on the table. “It was just about selling them why they need to be here in the Brazos Valley versus anywhere else in Texas,” explained Gutierrez. These are undoubtedly exciting times for Brazos County.
A High-Speed Connection
On their trip, the delegates also met representatives from corporations with plans to bring a high-speed railroad connection from Houston to Dallas and beyond. College Station Mayor John Nicols shared, “We did a very interesting overview and tour of the Japanese railroad companies headquarters…We even got to see the control room. It was certainly an eye-opening experience.”
Marketing Bryan-College Station
Delegates are confident that Brazos County is an attractive location for international businesses, boasting a highly-educated workforce, and abundant land. Nicols stressed on this point, stating, “We can take advantage of that and that’s what we were really marketing – the people, the talent, the community, and the welcoming environment that we have in Bryan-College Station.
