A&M Men’s Golf Concludes Season at NCAA Championships with the 20th Spot

CARLSBAD, Calif. – A&M Men’s Golf Seals Season with 20th Position at NCAA Championships

The 2023-24 golf season for the Texas A&M Aggies culminated after Sunday’s third round at the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship. The Aggies climbed up two ranks in their round of a 12-over 300 but couldn’t make it to the top-15 cutoff to progress to Monday’s concluding round of stroke play. The team concluded the competition in a tie with Stanford for the 20th position at a 41-over 905.

Team and Individual performances

Vishnu Sadagopan, standing in as an alternate for Aaron Pounds on Sunday, steered the Aggies with an even round at the par-72, 7,538-yard Omni La Costa Resort & Spa North Course. Playing in his concluding tournament for Texas A&M, senior Daniel Rodrigues proved to be the team’s best performer. Rodrigues landed at the 40th position at 6-over 222 after Sunday’s round of 77.

The Aggies received significant contributions from Phichaksn Maichon and Michael Heidelbaugh as well, who registered scores of 75 and 76, respectively. A clutch of Aggies, including Maichon, Jaime Montojo, and Rodrigues earned the PING All-Central Region Team recognition. Maichon also earned a prestigious spot in the All-SEC Second Team.

The story Beyond the Scorecards

While the commitment, dedication, and hard work of the Aggies throughout the season have been very inspiring, the season end has also signaled the end of the collegiate journey for some of the senior players.

Daniel Rodrigues, one of the senior members of the team, who played his final match on Sunday, has been a significant contributor throughout his time at Texas A&M, with numerous achievements to his name. His departure, along with other senior players, marks the end of an era for the team but at the same time provides an opportunity for new players to step up to the plate.

A look ahead

Despite the team failing to make it to the final round, the season has offered many encouraging signs for the future. The performance of younger players like Vishnu Sadagopan, as well as the recognition of team members in regional and conference teams, implies a promising future.

As the Aggies put a lid on the 2023-24 season, they will undoubtedly look forward to carrying on the work in the off-season, to emerge stronger in the next season, and continue their proud tradition in Men’s Golf.
