Texas State Bobcats’ Season Ends at College Station Regional Championship
At the College Station Regional Championship, Texas State Bobcats’ softball season came to an end in a devastating loss to the Texas A&M University Aggies. This is the second time in consecutive seasons Texas State (47-15) saw their season end at the mercy of Texas A&M (43-13). The hard fought match ended with a final score of 8-0 in favor of the Aggies.
A Day of Difficulty for the Bobcats
The Bobcats and Aggies had matched up in the Regional previously. While the first showdown saw Texas A&M managing to squeeze a single run, this time around, they erupted with a scoring spree, bagging eight runs within the initial three innings.
Texas State’s head coach, Ricci Woodard, gave credit where it was due. “Hats off to the Aggies,” Woodard said. “They did exactly what they needed to do to win [the game] today.” This early offensive surge proved too much for the Bobcats to tackle.
Efforts from Both Sides
The commanding pitching from Aggies’ junior pitcher, Emiley Kennedy, was also a notable contributor to their success. Her impeccable performance turned the game highly in favor of Texas A&M as early as the third inning.
Standing against this pressure in the circle for her last game as a Bobcat was senior pitcher, Jessica Mullins. She has given a starting performance against the Aggies in all three games this year. However, this third face-off proved unfortunate, as Texas A&M cracked her defenses early, tagging her for four runs during her outing.
Farewell to the Veterans
Woodard expressed proud sentiments towards the departing seniors. “It’s going to be a rough week, just because of the group I’m losing, because of who they are as people. They’re great ball players, but who they are as people, and what they’ve done for this program is why I’ll miss them.”
Graduate student and infielder, Sara Vanderford, also shared her feelings about the ending season. “I hope it’s nothing softball [we are remembered for],” Vanderford said. “I hope [our legacy] is that everyone remembers who we are as people; I think we did a lot for the program.”
The Bobcats have surely demonstrated the strength of their team and their commitment to the sport throughout this season. Their loss at the College Station Regional Championship marks the end of an era as they bid farewell to their senior teammates. Their performance at this championship is a testament to the spirit of collegiate sportsmanship and the game of softball.
