GAINESVILLE — Aggies Lose Series Finale

On a sunny Sunday afternoon on May 6th, 2024, at the Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium here in Gainesville, the No. 8 Texas A&M softball team was swept by No. 9 Florida in the series finale. The Aggies lost a hard-fought game that ended in six innings with a final score of 11-3.

Although they put a commendable performance, Texas A&M (39-12, 15-9 SEC) left the field with frustrations as 11 Aggies were stranded. Even though they managed a hitting rate of 7-for-11 with runners on base, it was not enough to secure the game. The Aggies had taken the lead in the first inning with a smashing two-out double by Jazmine Hill, which enabled Julia Cottrill to score after reaching on an error.

Florida Fights Back

However, Florida (43-12, 17-7 SEC) quickly turned the tables with two runs in the bottom half of the first inning. The Gators steadily added a pair of runs in the third and fifth innings, leaving the Aggies trailing with 6-1 after a grueling fifth round.

The Aggies attempted a spirited comeback in the sixth inning, netting two runs on three hits. This temporarily halved the deficit they were facing. Alas, the Gators were unrelenting and promptly squashed any hopes of an Aggie victory. The Gators ended the match in decisively dominant fashion, scoring five runs on four hits, thereby ending the game through the run-rule.

Aggies’ Pitching Not Enough

Texas A&M’s starter, Emiley Kennedy, who boasted a 20-10 record, bore the loss after pitching 3.0 innings with only one strikeout while giving up four runs on four walks and one walk.

Upcoming Schedule

The Aggies, despite the loss, secured the No. 3 seed in the SEC Tournament and will take to the field again on Thursday, May 9. Their time and opponent would be announced later. The 2024 SEC Tournament will be hosted by Auburn at Jane B. Moore Field in Auburn from May 7-11.
