Two Men Arrested for Alleged Burglary in College Station

College Station Man, Bryan Man Arrested for Alleged Burglary

In a turn of events yesterday, two men were cuffed and charged with burglary of a building, ramping up concerns over property safety in the community.

Report of an Unusual Disturbance

According to local law enforcement, officers responded to a report of an alleged burglary in progress around the 2500 block of Finfeather Road on the 18th of April. A property supervisor apprised the officers of two suspicious men he had identified through surveillance footage.

Quick Police Response Results in Two Arrests

The property manager managed to find one of the men inside the premises and appropriately turned him over to the police. The individual was later identified as 33-year-old Jacob Olvera from Bryan. As the police were conducting a search for the second accomplice, a car was spotted making westward moves on a gravel road adjacent to the building. A man by the name of Shelby Lee Goodman Jr., a 50-year-old College Station resident, was found behind the wheel.

Statements from the Accused

Upon apprehension, Goodman waived his Miranda rights and admitted to the officers that the purpose for his visit to the property was to collect scrap metal. He stated categorically that he was not personally acquainted with his co-accused, only knowing him as a friend’s acquaintance.

Initially, Olvera provided the police with a statement that his purpose for entering the building was to get “high” and not to commit theft. Nonetheless, Olvera later receded from his initial statement and admitted to the burglary.

Possible Consequences for the Offenders

Burglary of a habitation attracts a state jail felony charge, which carries a penalty of up to two years in jail and a maximum fine of $10,000. According to Brazos County Jail records, Olvera is currently held on a $27,000 bond, while Goodman is being held on a $20,000 bond.

Local residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any unusual activities to the police. The swift intervention of the property manager and the police’s timely action in this instance led to the immediate arrest of the trespassers, averting a potentially significant loss of property.
